Samsung Kills the Galaxy Note Because Everyone Owns Giant Phones Now
If you’ve been waiting for the Galaxy Note series phones since the Note 20 series debuted in 2020, Samsung has some bad news for you. The tech company has officially ended the Galaxy Note brand. Here’s everything you need to know.
Samsung scraps the Samsung Galaxy Note brand
Samsung’s Galaxy Note brand name is officially dead. The news of the departure of the Galaxy Note branding comes barely a month after the company unveiled the Galaxy S22 series. Samsung’s smartphone chief Roh Tae-moon officially confirmed this at the Mobile World Congress 2022.
According to Roh, the Galaxy Note will now launch as an Ultra (like the Galaxy S22 Ultra). This comes as no surprise as the company has already used the blueprints and DNA of the Galaxy Note to build its latest flagship, the S22 Ultra. Also, the company hasn’t released any Galaxy Note series phones since the Note 20 devices in 2020.
Why Samsung doesn’t need the Galaxy Note anymore
To understand why the South Korean tech giant has scrapped the Note brand, it pays to know why the Note was introduced in the first place.
The Note’s main pitch was that it was a big screen device, at a time when smartphone displays were comparatively small. It was a distinctly large-screen phone for power users who needed more screen real estate than was the norm at the time.
But as time went on, the entire industry with smartphones became bigger than ever. Thus, a bigger display size alone is not a standout feature. Internally too, the subsequent Galaxy Note models evolved to be similar to the Galaxy S series, with the only significant differences being the design and the S Pen.
The Galaxy Note brand is officially dead
Reports of Samsung scrapping the Galaxy Note brand have been doing the rounds online for a while now. The first signs of the Note’s departure came when the company started adding S Pen support to other Galaxy series phones.
And in 2021, Roh Tae-moon said that the company will not launch the Note for the whole year. Months later, the company officially integrated the Note’s DNA into its high-end Galaxy S series phone and launched it as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
And with there being a Note in all shapes and sizes other than the S22 Ultra name, there’s no need for the Note brand anymore.
